Our good times buddy Brett D’Souza who is also a kickass director invited us to shoot part of Movember series called Craft and Pride.

In Episode 1, we meet Blake who is into Fly Fishing. Shoot day was down in Warrandyte, Victoria we were treated to some great weather and lush surroundings. The shoot was straight forward with Brett bringing his A-Game and Liquid Shooting from the hip, at times knee deep in the Yarra River! Camera was by Liquid’s Dave Schmidt, Sound by Marcus Flack, Direction by Brett D’Souza & produced by Urchin Associates. Was a pleasure shooting for such a great cause.

A beautiful retrospective violin solo located in the very workshop the violin was created. Justin Grounds does it again with his unique approach to a very old instrument.

BRIEF

This was an internal pet project of ours. We love Justin’s music, and him travelling to Australia for a tour seemed a great opportunity to do something creative with him.

SOLUTION

We contacted Justin and he told us he was meeting up with his violin maker in Melbourne. (Just up the road from us) We pitched the idea for the video and he and Paul Davies from Spur Violins loved it.

We rocked in packing serious canon heat. 4 cameras and lots of lenses to cover Justin doing one of his unique solo performances on his violin using nothing but that and a laptop. He builds a beautiful layered piece upon which he soars with stunning solo dexterity. We then inter cut shots of the violin maker creating the very instruments that Justin uses for the performance. Including a 5 string violin, and a regular violin with octave strings. This thing sounds like a cello. Incredible. Enjoy and indulge as we did.

BRIEF

Demon Angel asked us to travel the globe and shoot interviews with the who’s who of the fashion art and design world. Edit it all down into a teaser for a new online IP TV station called FAD.

SOLUTION

The schedule was tight, very tight, the shooting pace was fast, extremely fast. We need to travel with minimal gear but still retain a high production standard. Shooting with the Canon 5D mark2 format was certainly the way to go. Allowing us to use lots of different lenses, have maximum flexibility with low light scenarios, and the rest of our shooting apparatus would be super light.

We were able to travel with a pocket dolly and a small 8 foot crane to create stunning cinema like moves in all sorts of situations. It gave us a wealth of footage to work with in the end, which in turn has made it easy to showcase the potential of the online IP TV station.

Rafael Nadal customises his Polo GS shirt at the portable NIKE Polo Van. Genius!

BRIEF

Teaming up once again with Local Peoples and Giuseppe Demaio the task was as follows. Capture Rafael Nadal, push him into a portable van decked out with Nike branding, force him to put iron on numbers onto his nice green shirt. All before a herd of screaming women track him down and ruin the day.

SOLUTION

We wanted to tell the story of Rafa’s obsession / superstition with the numbers 1 and 9 as well as showing off Nike’s new Polo Van. This project was a great example of “ALWAYS PLAN FOR RAIN” when you are working with International superstars who you only have for 1 hour in their busy schedule.

The original plan for to film Rafa walking along South Bank in Melbourne up to the Polo Van parked just next to Queens Bridge. As you would expect the clouds got nasty on us and opened right up just as we got ready to roll camera. With some super quick thinking we mentioned the Open Channel studios, called them up, organised a whole bunch of lights and with-in 30 Liquid mins we had changed locations and were ready for Rafa and his entourage.

We used every second to our advantage during our super quick set up. Even watering the concrete down with 2 minutes to spare just for that little bit of extra zing. And the finished result wasn’t Schmancy but a little bit Fancy!

Document the Nike Melbourne Cup. Get into the heads of the young players and learn about their passion. Edit an artistic perspective of the day which inspires and entertains.

SOLUTION

Giuseppe Demaio ( Local Peoples) and Chris Kamen (Photoplay) approached us to shoot and edit a introspective piece for Nike Melbourne. We shot the entire project on Canon 5Ds, and were armed to the teeth with crazy nice lenses. These allowed a shallow depth of field to further heighten the artistic nature of the shoot. We utilized various camera apparatus such as dolly track and a 12 foot crane in addition to time-lapse footage and hand held action. The effort that went in from Local Peoples to create the event space was exhaustive. It was a joy to document the weekend and follow the action. The final edit was an exploration in reflection and intensity picking up on Nike’s catchphrase ‘Write the Future‘.
