- BRIEF
- There is growing concern in Australia about the number of Asylum Seekers making their way to Australia by boat from Indonesia. Our task was to ask the questions that the current media storm is ignoring. Why are they doing this? What causes someone to risk their life and get on a leaky boat? What are the stories that lead up to this decision?.
- SOLUTION
- The film was dreamed up by lawyer and refugee advocate Jessie Taylor. After working on ‘We Will Be Remembered For This’ three years ago, it was time to collaborate again, this time looking specifically at the issue of boat people. This film is not about politics or Australian international diplomacy. It offers the personal stories from within this issue that has sparked growing international concern. Following three asylum seekers stories over the course of a year we meet them in various places of detention in Indonesia. From behind bars to being on the run in the streets of Jakarta. Who will make it to Australia, who will get on a boat? Who will be sent home? And who will still be waiting in Indonesia? We are half way through production and are super excited about how it’s progressing!
